Obituary for Richard William Kolke, Sr.

Richard W. Kolke, Sr., a longtime resident of Pinehurst and most recently Belle Meade passed away on March 10, 2019 at the age of 91.

Dick was born on January 10, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Alvina & Gustav Kolke. He and his family moved to Newark NJ where he grew up. Upon graduation from Weequahic High School, Dick enlisted in the US Army and while in the Philippines served on General MacArthur’s staff. After serving his country, he attended and graduated from Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ with a BS in Accounting and a minor in Business.

Dick had a long and varied career. He began his career working for National Cash Register. After several promotions and transfers, the decision was made to put down permanent roots in Lewiston, NY, where he and his family lived for over 20 years. While in Lewiston, he worked for M&T Bank as an Assistant Vice President. Always wanting to be his own “boss”, he started his business, Kolke Electric Supply Co. When he sold his business, Dick was appointed to the Lewiston- Porter School District as the Director of Finance and Facility where he stayed there until he retired to Pinehurst in 1988.

While in Lewiston, Dick was very active in local civic & service organizations. He was elected and held a seat on the Lewiston Town Council for 11 years. As busy as he was with work and volunteer activities, he was always found time to attend his children’s activities. He was a wonderful husband and father who taught his children many life lessons. He will be remembered for his quick wit and great sense of humor. Dick loved Pinehurst. The weather, the golf and the friends he made.

Dick is survived by his wife of 65years Madeleine (Midge) Kolke, a son Richard W. Kolke Jr. of Sugar Land, TX, a daughter Lynn Delgarn and her husband Daniel of Pinehurst, granddaughters, Leah and Heather, great grandsons Gabriel & Dominic, and several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Evelyn, brother Arthur, and great grandson, Aiden.
