Obituary for Marjorie Asztalos

Marjorie Kraemer Asztalos, 93, of Pinehurst passed away at First Health Hospice House on Wednesday January 2, 2019 after a short illness.

Marjorie was born in Milwaukee, WI to the late John and Laura Hoeltz Kraemer on April 3, 1925.

She graduated from Waukesha High School in 1943 and attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a degree in art.

Marjorie’s future husband Michael was enrolled at the University of Wisconsin after being discharged in 1945 after serving in the Army Air Corp now the US Air Force. Marjorie and Mike met by chance on campus and this led to their marriage in January 1948. One of the biggest events of her life took place after her husband Michael was recalled to active duty three months after the start of the Korean War for the Nuclear Weapons Program. She joined him in Albuquerque, NM and later when he was sent to RAF Air Force Base near Cambridge, England she again joined him there. She accomplished this task by traveling with two very young sons plus carrying the necessary baggage. To ensure the safety of her sons she purchased two dog leases to restrain the frisky boys. Her trip was by train from Wisconsin to New York City where she stayed a few days in an independent hotel then to England sailing on the SS Washington a former luxury liner converted to a military transport during WWII. The family lived in Cambridge, England and enjoyed this time with many fond memories of life long acquaintances with the families of Mike’s squadron. Years later Marjorie and Mike attended many annual reunions with the squadron members.

After the Korean War ended her husband was released from active duty and he went back to work for his former employer Wisconsin Electric Power and settled in Waukesha, WI. Marjorie was active in her church choir and served on several boards. She was a member of the Waukesha Women’s Service Club which now volunteer’s for the Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

In 1995 Marjorie and Michael moved to Pinehurst and enjoyed many years with new and old friends who moved here from Wisconsin.

She was predeceased by her parents, brothers James and George and twin sister Jeanette as well seventeen of her nineteen cousins.

Marjorie had a loving and kind personality and could charm you with stories of her past life.

Surviving is her husband Michael Asztalos, two sons Michael and wife Marie Asztalos, John Asztalos, four grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

A funeral mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pinehurst will be announced at a future date.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions be made to First Health Hospice, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.

Services are entrusted to Boles Funeral Home of Pinhurst.
